Gameplay Overview:
Controls that are available to you are displayed on the left side of the screen.  As new abilities are learned, they will appear on the side of the screen as well.  However, just for quick reference, here they are:

Move: Left and Right arrows
Jump: Spacebar
Change Colors: A (Cyan), S (Magenta), D (Yellow)
NOTE: Not all colors are available when the game starts.

When I read the "modifier" theme (3 color palette) for the GDFG Monthly Game Jam #34, I decided to ignore the main theme and focus on a game where color influences the game's core mechanic.  Having a background in art and print media, I decided to go with three of the core print colors used in the CMYK process, keeping the CMY (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow) and leaving out the "Key" color, which is normally Black (Sometimes white).  Since Black/White in CMYK is used as a way to introduce shades of Grey, I decided to name the game "Without Grey".

Finally, I came up with the idea that everything in the game's environment could be both foreground and background, depending on the color of the main character.  I also wanted to add in some other mechanics, such as combat, dashes, sprints, wall-jumps, ect...  But I decided to keep the additional mechanics down to just the classic "double jump" in order to keep my scope as trim as possible.

Created in Godot 4.

Timeframe: Scoping this project down as much as possible was the real challenge for this particular game jam, as I have a newborn baby (born July 11th, 2024) and have only had a couple of fragmented hours a week to work on the project.  I've also decided to submit the project a bit early, as I'm not sure what kind of time I'll have for the rest of the week and don't want to forget to publish or get stuck in the middle of a new feature.

In order to save time, but also make the visuals vary, I created a shader for the platform/background that used RNG to set the rotation and size of the spaces involved.  This was initially done for only the multicolor platforms, in order to keep with the "3 Color Palette" modifier.  However, I decided  to add the checker  texturing to the single color platforms, so I technically didn't stick to the modifier challenge.

Since I knew I didn't have enough time to animate the character or score the game, I grabbed the character animation and background music from royalty free sites.

Future: I had a lot of fun creating and playing this particular project so, if people enjoy it, I may flesh it out into a fully-formed Metroidvania that uses the same core color-switching mechanic.
